About Coach Mike Markuson

Coach Mike shares that change is not merely improving your circumstances, but rebuilding your mind when life breaks your momentum. It’s reprogramming how you think and responding differently to life’s setbacks. He discovered that true breakthrough begins with a shift in attitude and perspective. If you truly want to change, you must change what you do on a daily basis.

Today Mike reflects on how choosing to think and act differently has placed him in a far better position physically, emotionally, and spirtually. Transformation truly changed for me when I placed a bigger emphasis on my spiritual condition. Spending more time with God in word, prayer, and fellowship with others. Being brave enough to change required real courage to confront old habits, release destructive patterns, and step forward into a new life. Mike’s journey is a reminder that while rise and fall moments are inevitable, moving forward with intention and faith make lasting transformation possible.

Mike resides in Clarksville, Tennessee with his wife of thirty three years Dottie and beloved children. He enjoys staying physically fit by riding his bike, jogging, lifting weights, and swimming. During the summer Mike enjoys visiting the northern lakes of Minnesota, his happy place and home of his youth.

My Career As a Coach

For more than four decades, I coached football at the college, professional, and high school levels. Competing in fifteen bowl games, winning multiple championships, and helping build successful programs across the country.

I had the privilege of coaching elite athletes such as Barry Sanders, Darren McFadden, Michael Oher, Shawn Andrews, and Jonathan Luigs, and many others who advanced their careers to the NFL. I was also honored to be nominated four times for the Broyles Award, recognizing college football’s top assistant coach.

But my story is about more than football.

After years of success, life took a difficult turn through personal struggle, professional setbacks, and trouble with alcohol. Those challenges forced me to confront hard truths, rebuild my life, and pursue lasting change through faith, discipline and a renewed mindset. Today, I use my story to encourage others facing adversity. Showing that setbacks do not have to define your future. Change is possible, purpose remains, and there is always a path forward.
